Teach Happier is more than a book–it’s a tool educators need to make happiness a daily habit in their professional lives. As you read, you will realize that the research-based strategies and activities throughout the book can be easily implemented with any grade level and applied to life outside of school as well. Tracy Cochran is simultaneously witty and profound. She skips the hierarchical tendencies so often found in great teachers, salting the story of her search for meaning with humor, but always also holding up the light we need to follow. I’ve read–or listened to–a great many books that promise to help me to a connected and meaningful life. Like Walden, or The Screwtape letters, this book is both art and artifact. Just connect we have been told by public figures from Kafka to E.M. Forster. Tracy will not show you the way. She will go there with you.

Teach Happier
Our school, New River Primary, is facilitating a book study, for our county, Fayette County Schools, WV using the “Teach Happier” book by Suzanne Dailey. The book is inspiring! It includes a reflective component that transforms the book into a hands-on, minds-on journal of self-care. It is an easy read and can be readily incorporated into one’s personal and professional journey. Suzanne’s Facebook group, podcasts, blogs, and website are all aligned with the book and are great resources! This is a must have book for every teacher bookshelf. Principals, this is a great teacher gift for your teachers and staff! Happy Reading! Melinda K. Foster

One powerful little book!
This is one powerful little book! Each chapter clearly and cleverly defines a small, manageable shift in mindset which leads to more joy, peace, and an increased sense of overall well-being. I’m not sure what I appreciate more about this book – the deeply moving personal stories, the relevant research, or the gentle invitation to reflect on my own life and think about how to apply all that I have learned. Suzanne weaves together personal stories that resonate and inspire. It’s refreshing to read a professional book that is written by a teacher! Suzanne is not a spectator – her sleeves are rolled up and her feet are firmly planted in the arena and have been for 20 plus years. She is trying to juggle it all, just like us. Not only that, Suzanne has clearly done her homework! I love that she infuses each chapter with the most impactful research from positive psychology and neuroscience. This is a book I will come back to time and time again to be reminded and renewed. Suzanne is an author we need to hear more from! I can’t wait to see what she writes next. In the meantime, I will be tuning into her podcast and keeping her book bedside.

Practical, funny, purposeful shifts for a happier work and personal life
Suzanne has a way of immediately connecting with you as the reader. If you want skills to find the happy and see the good- this is for you and everyone you know. It’s an easy read with practical advice and room for self-reflections. There’s space to write your own thoughts to grow from. It’s presented to read a portion each week, but I couldn’t put it down! It’s helped me take a breath with all that’s swirling around education now and find what matters most- the students and trusted colleagues. It’s easy to draw parallels outside the classroom too, so it’s not just for educators. It’s a book I’ll return to each year because it has great stories, scientific data about happiness, and it helps bring the most important parts of our lives into the spotlight.

A Must Have for Any/Every Teacher
There is so much to think about, stress over and worry about when a teacher – whether a first timer or seasoned vet – prepares effective and adaptable lessons throughout a given school year. “Teach Happier This School Year” guides an educator through the year with simple, effective and supportive suggestions (“small shifts”) that bring out the best of those lessons, the students working on them and most certainly the teacher delivering them (“big gifts”).This book may not be a textbook that a professor would assign a class of teachers-to-be in a college course but it’s contents are more relatable, insightful and valuable than How To Be A Teacher 101 could offer.

Just what our teaching community needs right now!!
Being in the classroom feels more challenging than ever right now but Suzanne Dailey has found a way to share bite sized ideas that really work. Sometimes the thought of trying something new feels so overwhelming but these “small shifts” make sense and are easy to incorporate in my middle school classroom. And there’s a bonus…these strategies have improved my life outside of the classroom too!

Not just for teachers! So much good stuff in this book!
I love the Teach Happier podcast, and I love this book! “Small shifts bring big gifts” is Teach Happier’s motto, and this approachable little book is a Big Gift for each reader and for the people in their lives. Suzanne Dailey has curated 40 perfect little packages of manageable changes in mindset or action to help us all find the joy and maintain the sanity in our professional and personal lives. The ideas she presents are supported by research but driven home with personal anecdotes and examples, and Dailey’s blend of humor, compassion, humility, realism, and optimism shine throughout and bring each suggestion to life. Highly highly recommend!

Book is great–the way Amazon packaged it was not.
The book seems great. I am excited to join a colleague in starting a “Teach Happier” Friday morning accountability club on my school site. (I may add more to my review of the book after we start using it this year.) The layout of the book is good, and I love that everything the author suggests seems manageable. For those reasons, I will give it five stars for now. With that said, this may be the last time I buy a book on Amazon. The book arrived stuffed into the bottom of a box that was way too narrow, but that was really deep. (There was one other small, soft item packed with it, so I am not sure why that sized box seemed appropriate.) It is hard to tell in the picture, but the book was really wedged in there. Whoever packed it damaged one of the corners. So, here is the conundrum. The book is useable. But, it looks beat up, and won’t sit straight in a book shelf. (The pictures do not do the damage justice.) The bend goes all the way though from cover to cover, and every page is warped. My only option with Amazon is to find a UPS store to return it and then wait for a new book. I go back to school in a few days, so I don’t feel like dealing with all that, and I really want to start reading the book now. So I am stuck with a beat up book. If I had paid for a used copy, I would be fine with its condition. But at full price direct from Amazon, not so much.I usually try to buy my books from independent book sellers, but I was lured by the dollar or two I saved on Amazon. So, my recommendation–buy the book. Just spend the extra buck or two, and buy it from somewhere that cares a little more about books (and customer service).

This book is a perfect blend of positivity and reality. Suzanne is a master of bridging the gap between acknowledging the incredible challenges in a teacher’s daily life while giving us real, easy to implement “small shifts” that we can use RIGHT NOW to begin the pathway to happiness. A must read for all educators and those looking for happiness in their general lives!
I have tuned in and listened to every single one of Suzanne’s podcasts. I have attended her uplifting workshops and presentations, and now it is all here in one place! Do you find the profession of education has you feeling stressed? Have the stresses of the job made it more difficult for you to be happy at work? Do you wish you could find the joy you hoped for when you started what you thought would be a fulfilling career? Teaching is without a doubt a rewarding job, but if you are a teacher, we all know it to also be exhausting and stressful. I don’t think this book could have been more timely. Times are different. Today’s teachers face challenges their predecessors never did. Do you want to be a happier teacher for not only you and your your students but all those around you? Then, this book is your answer! You will look forward to the easy to implement strategies and be excited going to work, have more energy when you’re there, and even carry many of these tips with you into your home life that are both realistic and easy to practice. This book is a great book even if you aren’t a teacher. Based on the latest research, Teach Happier will arm you with the knowledge and strategies to elevate the knowing of why you became a teacher in the first place. You’ll be happier at school. Your students will be happier in your classroom. And your colleagues will ask you how you did it! Happiness is a decision. Be the happier teacher every student wants and deserves. This book hits all the targets!

An absolute must read for when you are feeling overwhelmed and need a reboot. I found myself unable to put the book down! Written from the heart with humor, genuine emotion and plenty of practical ideas, this book was exactly what I needed. I have shared this title with my friends in education and it has earned a spot on my desk for easy access when I need a reminder to “find the magic”.

Great for newer and veteran teachers alike!
This book is a game changer! Practical and easy to implement ideas, based in positive psychology, are peppered with with entertaining stories. Suzanne’s voice shines throughout the text and you feel like you’re getting advice from a friend rather than being told what to do. Newer teachers will find it digestible and not overwhelming; veteran teachers will see themselves reflected as well as ways to improve their current practice. Buy two – one for you and one for a teacher friend 🙂

Interactive and inspirational book & reflective journal for all educators!
Suzanne pulls together all of the most wonderful positive psychology tips, her professional experiences, and provides manageable ways for us to apply it into our own lives on a weekly basis! I am just getting started and can’t wait to start the new year off journaling each week. Looking forward to investing in myself these next 40 weeks so I can bring the best version of myself to work and home! If it is anything like Suzanne’s workshops or podcasts, I know it will be great!

If you work in schools… Run to get this…
I can’t say enough wonderful things about this book. I’ve been a teacher for 22 years and after Covid, things just haven’t been the same. After returning from sabbatical I needed something to keep me focused on the good, stay balanced between home and school and also be realistic about expectations. This has been it! I read the next chapter each Sunday to gear up for the week ahead by focusing on a single strategy. The author even has some of the strategies to incorporate into your classroom (see above the picture of our happiness made from pipe cleaners). I think I will do this every year to stay focused!!! So happy I found the podcast and now the book!

A great resource to help teachers
Suzanne has put together a great resource to help teachers deal with all of the challenges they face in the classroom. It is thoughtful in her approach to offer weekly activities. The end result will be teachers that can continue to impact the lives of students with positive psychology. I will be sending copies of this book to my friends that are teachers.
